As this year closes out with yours truly slowly but surely recovering from a week-long battle with a vicious flu bug, I greet the ending to Year 2006 with a certain happiness and glee . . . and relief. With the deaths of James Brown, Gerald Ford and Saddam Hussein in the final week of the year, an exclamation point is added to this noteworthy time in our lives. Unknown celebrities have certainly been born in this final week; decades from now their bloom will be in full-flower and goodness will no doubt still be doing battle with wickedness.
So, goodbye to the old year. I stand watch for the new year with great anticipation and thanksgiving, still one in the number.
