Florida 37, ladies and gentlemen, Florida State 26. It was a beating more representative of what should have been the final score -- 37-20. But we'll take it.
And this, my friends, was the play of the game:
And no, E.J., that Mack Truck that destroyed you wasn't Lerentee McCray -- that was true freshman Antonio Morrison. He will be terrorizing Noles for a few more years to come.
Were they, our mustard-and-ketchup-colored-cousins, overconfident coming into this game against their most hated rival? Hell, yes! On the radio, in the papers, the message boards, at the job -- they were supremely confident.
Here are but two quotes of the pre-game that are representative of the overconfidence exhibited by most Noles before the game (from Tomahawk Nation), though they will likely deny it now:
Prediction: FSU 30-10
We beat UF 21-7 last year in Gainesville w/o a run game and an Oline to speak of. This season’s UF defense is very good but it’s still not FSU good. They do give up drives and points to teams and they have not faced a multiple offense w/ the balance that FSU has (RattlerGator: that was good for a damn good laugh before the game and especially afterwards!!!). FSU plays all out at home and with the added motivation of it being Florida I think everyone will play with an added edge to them. Florida does have the special teams edge in punting but every other edge goes to FSU (???). I think UF will have a very hard time getting passed the 50 on FSU. I think it will be defensive to start but our offense will get going and be able to finish out some drives with touchdowns. Unless FSU has a special teams mishap (muffed punt) I really think TD’s will be hard to come by for UF. At the end of the day; FSU should pull away sooner than later and win by a comfortable margin.
I don't see where Uf has this great defense, I mean really they let 5 CRAPPY teams score 78 points on them., compared to FSU's 5 CRAPPY team 2 a mere 27 points
I’m with zone3nole/cane on this one, 31-7 or 34-10
As we all know now, Florida controlled the game and held on even as the ACC refs tried to rescue the Noles. With around 4 or 5 minutes to go in the third quarter, ten penalties had been assessed -- all of them against the Gators. All of them.
The morning, however, this Monday morning, is dominated by a sense of complete satisfaction after watching my Mighty Gators proudly walk into Tallahassee on Saturday and remind Ma Squaw and Sammy Seminole just who the hell runs this damn state.
Mission accomplished, Gators, you choked 'em out !!!
They are bitching and moaning about turnovers and E.J. Manuel but truth be told, and this is supremely hard for Noles to admit, Florida dominated them on both lines of scrimmage.
Dominated them, dominated the time of possession, and clearly answered the question of who was the toughest football team.
The victory was a dominating one made even more sweet by a temporary rush in the third quarter that made Noles everywhere giddy.
Okay Noles, you KEEP the third quarter dammit, we want the fourth.
And the boys from the SEC didn't just want the fourth, they took it. Like they owned it!
You know what? They did, in fact, own it. Florida essentially went on a 24-zip romp through the hearts of mustard-and-ketchup Noles everywhere in that fourth quarter. It was an absolute thing of beauty, the likes of which I've rarely seen. This was a thumping so emphatic (hell, they thought they had the number one damn defense in the country when in fact they were PLAYING the number one damn defense in the nation) that Noles have to be shell-shocked this morning.
I said BOOM, dammit! I can envision a generic Nole fan, crouched in fear, who can be seen muttering, "Wha - Wha - What the f*ck was that?"
Nuttin -- that's just Will Mickey-Fickey Muschamp, baby bubba! He gonna be around for a while. Might as well get used to him, and this stare:
I love that stare! That's what I call the "Head Gator In Charge Stare" -- fear it.
Thank you, Gators, for a magical year of football that was at least one year ahead of schedule. Check out this video from TaylorGangUF:
As always, win or lose, it's great to be a Florida Gator !!!
