Cascades Park in Tallahassee continues to progress toward completion. What promises to be the iconic centerpiece of the park is the amphitheater that sits adjacent to the spot that serves as Florida's prime meridian. This is the third in a series of posts that will showcase at least one photo including a current shot of the amphitheater and at least one photo of current progress elsewhere in the park.
Today -- the view of the amphitheater from the north as seen via the creek used for stormwater drainage:
Once filled with people, this is going to be a spectacular sight. July 4th might really be special in this spot. Below is an image of the plaza that adjoins the amphitheater. It's an interesting concept -- the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean are represented in colored brick with the state of Florida, along with all of our counties delineated -- are the focus. Well done, ladies and gentlemen.
Notice the north-south, and east-west intersection of the brick paths above. The picture above was taken so that you, the viewer, are looking from the west towards the east.
Another shot:
Finally, the representation of Florida's Prime Meridian (the arbitrary point from which all public land-based surveys reference and relate back to based upon the north-south meridian parallel and its east-west intersection with the basis parallel):
Clearly, the park is not only going to serve as fun place for the community but will also serve as a very good and interesting teaching tool, too.
